Marty and Avrum - The Food Guys

Peru is known for its music, art and kind people. The restaurant is dedicated to serving the best Peru has to offer, nothing is spared in quality.

Seco de carne - Peruvian Beef Stew

A treasure can be found in the most unlikely place. El Fogon Authentic Peruvian Cuisine, at 543 St. Clair Ave. W., is a fantastic place and - believe me - it is the real thing.

Peru has centuries-old cultural influences from Spain, China, Japan and Africa. Over the years, this has created a fusion between Peruvian food and the cuisines of the other, newer cultures.

El Fogon offers five different soups. They are all huge and loaded to the top with wonderfully fresh ingredients. My favourite was Aguadito de Mariscos, seafood rice soup. Each plate made me sing an opera melody, and I don't know opera.

Voted the No. 1 ceviche in Toronto - at one point I was eating the seafood with my hands. I fell in love with the stuffed avocado with potato salad and shrimp. If you love mussels, you have found paradise in a bowl, fresh, fresh, fresh!

The Jalea is lightly breaded and fried strips of fish. Start the band, I am ready to sing! My friend Joe had the Peruvian beef stew; he said it's better than his mom's.

I hope his mom doesn't find out. This is a small place with an enormous amount of dedication and food that takes you on a journey of fantasy. It offers a most memorable experience.

Tell your friends, I have already told 600,000 people. I hope they let the world know how good the food is.
